WHAT’S AT STAKE?

Tulane, which went 12-2 last season, wants to justify its first preseason AP Top 25 ranking and start strong in its quest for a bid to a second straight American Athletic Conference title and major New Year’s bowl game. South Alabama, looking to build on a 10-win 2022 campaign, seeks its first victory over a ranked opponent since knocking off then-No. 19 San Diego State in 2016.

Tulane’s running game, which is trying to fill the void left by Tyjae Spears’ departure to the NFL, faces a South Alabama defensive front that has most players returning to a unit that ranked third nationally in yards rushing allowed per game at 92.9.

South Alabama: QB Carter Bradley set the Jaguars’ single-season record for total yards of offense with 3,393 last season.

Tulane: Fourth-year QB Michael Pratt accumulated 3,010 yards and 27 TDs passing last season to go with 478 yards and 10 TDs rushing. Pratt is on watch lists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Wuerffel Trophy, the Maxwell Trophy, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Walter Camp Award and the Manning Award.
