Police have identified the 42-year-old woman who was found dead at her home in Sydney’s west over the Easter weekend and are appealing to the public for information.

Erin Gilbert was found dead with severe injuries in the main living area of her apartment in Merrylands on Sunday. Neighbours had called police at about 11.30pm with concerns about her welfare.

Detectives have started an investigation into Gilbert’s death with help from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Superintendent Andrew Holland told reporters on Tuesday that when police arrived at the scene Gilbert’s husband was performing CPR on her body.

Gilbert’s husband has not been charged with any offence.

The cause of Gilbert’s death is not yet known, but Holland said her injuries were “very serious and severe” and nothing has been ruled out. Holland would not comment on whether the police were searching for a weapon.

Police believe Gilbert was at her unit for the duration of the evening and are concerned someone else may have been there with her.

Police are calling on people in the community to come forward with information on Gilbert’s whereabouts and interactions in the lead up to her death to help police piece together a timeline.

“The smallest amount of information can be the biggest amount of information,” Holland said. “People don’t realise something that they saw days prior would lead us down the right path to finalise the investigation.”

Holland said Gilbert was known to police for minor matters. She and her husband have lived in Parramatta for several years and moved to Merrylands around 7 months ago
